Mace Francis Orchestra

MFO was formed late in 2005 by band-leader and composer Mace Francis to experiment with composition, in the style of the great modern big bands lead by Bob Brookmeyer, Thad Jones, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider.  The result has been the coming together of 14 of Perth’s finest emerging young musician’s and composers to create exciting new music for big band.

Motion is the creative talents of Andrew Brooks, Berish Bilander, Nick Abbey and Hugh Harvey. Performing original contemporary improvised music, Motion draws on jazz, contemporary classical, experimental rock and minimalism, the group attempts to blur the lines between composition and improvisation, with a focus on spontaneous interaction. Johannes Luebbers

Winner of the 2009 Youth Arts WA Citizen of the Year and the coveted APRA ‘Best Australian Jazz Song of the Year’ at the 2009 Australian Jazz ‘Bell’ Awards, Johannes Luebbers graduated from the WA Academy of Performing Arts in 2006, completing a BMus (Honours), majoring in jazz arranging and composition.
